Mr David Armstrong is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and is based at the Royal Victoria Hospital.  He also performs NHS Ophthalmology Clinics in Ballymena Health and Care Centre and cataract surgery in South Tyrone Hospital. As part of his interest in Emergency Eye Care, Dr Armstrong is Trust Lead for Emergency Eye care services at the Belfast Trust.

After leaving Northern Ireland in 1993, Dr Armstrong spent 10 years in a combination of basic research (BSc Biochemistry), and applied research; culminating in a PhD in Medicine (Ophthalmology), studying the healing processes involved in the eye. He completed his medical school degree, from the University of Manchester, in 2007.
 
Towards the end of Dr Armstrongs 7 years specialist ophthalmology training in Northern Ireland, he held a joint appointment with the Queens University of Belfast as a Clinical Lecturer, researching areas of diabetic eye disease.  He continues to hold a position of Honorary Lecturer at Queens University.
 
Dr Armstrong regularly sees patients with general, emergency and specialist eye conditions and he particularly enjoys performing cataract surgery.

His private practice rooms are at Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Belfast.
