This weekend sees the end of World Mental Health Week.  Organisations and people across the country have been attending and volunteering at events to help raise money and awareness for an issue that is more important than ever - mental health.

 

Whilst many may have been smiling and enjoying the sunshine it can never be taken for granted how someone may be feeling on the inside, which is why it is important to acknowledge any underlying issues and have services available to provide support.

 

Mental health is often seen as a taboo subject with many disregarding it as an important factor in overall health. However, the link between a healthy body and mind is well documented and each complement each other to improve an individual’s wellbeing.

 

How our health inside and out is connected:

•       Depression is linked to a 67% increased risk of heart disease.

•       And a 50% increase in risk of death from cancer.

•       Poor emotional health can also cause back pain, high blood pressure and insomnia.

•       A healthy diet can help combat conditions such as depression and Alzheimer’s.

•       Physical activity not only improves physical wellbeing but aids alertness, energy and positive mood.
