Sleep & Snoring Clinic
Most people may look upon sleep as just another function of the human body, without fully understanding what happens to our system during this process. Few things feel better than a good night’s sleep. A quality sleep pattern contributes to better moods, sharpens our brain and helps our bodies function to their full capacity.
Getting a good night’s rest has the additional benefit of supercharging your health as people who engage in a healthy sleep pattern are shown to be more resistant to common colds, infections and weight gain.
For those who suffer from sleep disorders, simple lifestyle changes such as weight loss, stopping smoking and reduced alcohol consumption can be the key to eliminating the problem. There are several ways to treat sleeping disorders and it is only after full investigation by one of the nurses at our Sleep Clinic™, that we will be able to determine your specific issue and treat accordingly.
Treatment may require one of the following:
- CPAP Device (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)- This is a mask worn over the nose while sleeping which forces air into the respiratory tract keeping it free from obstruction and associated snoring.
- MAP (Mandibular Advancement Prosthesis)- A dental anti-snoring device can be custom fitted to gently force the jaw forward during sleep to reduce the problem.
- Weight and Lifestyle Management- We offer expert assistance with a personal weight reduction programme run by a team of dieticians, to help maintain or reach a healthy weight and give guidance on achieving a healthy lifestyle.
- Surgery- This is often considered to be a last resort and will only be a necessary course of action if something more serious is revealed that is causing significant sleep difficulties.
