ATO - Assistant Technical Officer

Kingsbridge Healthcare Group are currently seeking to fill the role of an Assistant Technical Officer within the Theatre/Sterile Services Department. The successful candidate will be based at Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West, Ballykelly.

Job Summary

The Successful applicant will be required to participate in the provision of a sterile supplies service to Theatre, Endoscopy, Ward and Outpatients departments and to provide a quality service for outside contract work.  The Assistant Technical Officer must ensure that good manufacturing practices and Quality Standard procedures are carried out.

There is a requirement to stand while carrying out duties in all production areas, with a frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort in the transport and general movement of instrument trays and other medical devices.

Main Responsibilities

  • Clean, inspect, assemble, pack, seal, label and sterilize instruments and equipment, including flexible endoscopes.
  • Deliver/collect and assemble instrument trays for the Theatre, Endoscopy, Ward and Outpatients department and any other outside contract work which the Hospital undertakes.
  • Daily testing of autoclaves to HTM 01-01 Part C requirements and daily testing of washer/disinfectors to HTM 01-01 Part D requirements. Maintain production, test and validation records of machinery and packs for ISO 13485.
  • Ensure that stock is rotated and that stock levels are maintained.
  • To inform the Decontamination Technician Supervisors of any raw material shortages and ensure stock is rotated
  • Ensure that the Hospital’s Health and Safety policies are always adhered to.
  • Check all instruments for defects and if necessary, record for replacement or repair.
  • Work a shift system to meet service requirements. This may include Bank Holidays and weekends.
  • To ensure safe handling of transportation trolleys and reusable medical devices
  • Take and pass on messages as and when required.
  • To maintain and be able to use IT systems.
  • Demonstrate work activities to untrained staff when qualified.
  • To have an understanding of the Department’s Quality Policy, Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that a high standard of work is maintained at all times.
  • Contribute to the introduction of new methods of working and variation in supply as may from time to time be necessary, particularly relating to new developments.
  • Handling and storage of raw materials and comply with detailed systems which exist in this area.
  • Work shifts within the decontamination room of the Endoscopy Unit, ensuring that all endoscopes are properly decontaminated, and the accompanying documents are accurately completed and filed.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews and development planning.
  • Participate in mandatory training as required.
  • To comply with the Department’s training programme and undertake training in line with the development of the post, as agreed with line manager.
  • Minimise risk when exposed to bodily fluids and ensure care and attention when dealing with contaminated instruments.

The duties outlined above are not intended as a restrictive list and may be extended or altered to include other tasks as the department develops.

  • Basic computer skills/operating systems – successful applicant will be required to utilise track and trace traceability software.

  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to be flexible and prioritise workload
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of working within a CSSD department desirable but not essential

The Successful applicant will, after training be required to undertake a nationally recognised qualification in decontamination.
