Urology Procedures
In some cases, our Consultant will recommend non-invasive treatment such as prescriptions or adjustments to your lifestyle. However, some patients will require surgery.

Cystoscopy Clinic
This is the most commonly performed urological procedure: a rapid, minimally invasive outpatient intervention, allowing full examination of the entire male and female lower urinary tract (urethra, prostate/bladder neck, bladder, ureteric orifices).
Indications: Haematuria, UTI, lower urinary tract symptoms, Suspected pathology (cancer, stones, inflammation), Incontinence, Structural abnormalities, Clinical surveillance, Treatment.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, takes a few minutes and patients can return home immediately.
- Diagnosis: by direct inspection
- Sampling: biopsies, washing
- Therapeutic Interventions: e.g. Botox injection, cautery, stent removal, urethral dilatation

The Lead Urologist at Kingsbridge Sligo is Mr Ian Walsh. He is fully accredited in functional, reconstructive and neuro-urology and has performed over 15,000 flexible cystoscopies. Previously Visiting Professor at the University of California, Mr Walsh is Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast, Journal Editor of The Institute of Psychosexual Medicine, Scientific Chair of the Irish Association of Sexual Medicine and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. He leads Medical Arts and Humanities, as well as Healthcare Human Factors.
