Kingsbridge Private Hospital is currently seeking to recruit a Head Chef within the Catering department. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated chef to become part of the catering management team in our state-of-the-art hospital in Ballykelly.

Accountable to Hospital Compliance and Clinical Services Manager

Job Summary

The Head Chef will be responsible for assisting the Catering Manager in the running of Kingsbridge Private Hospital catering services. They will be required to work five, 8-hour shifts per week, including weekends and have an ability to cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner.

The ideal candidates should have at least 4 years’ restaurant experience in a senior chef role.

As well as the excellent medical care from doctors, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals, the hospital’s catering department plays an instrumental role in helping patients make a speedy recovery with their healthy local cuisine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • prepare, cook and present food to the 5-star standard required by the Hospital management.
  • To ensure patients are given a 5-star prompt and efficient service and that their expectations are consistently exceeded.
  • produce a balanced range of food for the canteen
  • Manage food purchasing and storage ensuring targets are met in relation to food costs.
  • Ensure supplies are correctly issued, used and accounted for to carry out stock takes and food rotation procedures.
  • Ensuring good records are maintained relating to food production activities and supplier information as required by the Catering Manager.
  • The ensure health and safety and food safety standards are maintained

 

Staff responsibilities:

  • To lead the daily service of the kitchen, setting staff objectives and tasks, including supervision of staff.
  • Assist the Catering Manager in staff recruitment and selection.
  • To assess employee performance and recognise training needs in assistance to the Catering Manager.
  • Ensure staff are dressed appropriately at work to satisfy statutory requirements as well as enhancing the image of the hospital.
  • Ensure all service staff have full knowledge of menu dishes regarding ingredients and cooking methods and be able to provide this information to patients.

The above list is not exhaustive and additional / alternative tasks may be required from time to time as directed.

Essential Criteria

  • Food hygiene qualification such as the Institute of Environmental Health Officers (IEHO) Advanced Level
  • At least 4 years’ restaurant experience
  • An Awareness of HACCP Principles
  • Effective skills in management, problem solving, and decision making
  • Ability to lead in staff training/development
  • Promotion of effective and collaborative team working
  • objective setting and achievement/motivation
  • Be prepared to work towards the short and long term goals of the organisation
  • Procurement of stock, and cost control

Desirable Criteria

City & Guilds certificates 7061/2/3 or a relevant NVQ (e.g. in food preparation and Catering)
