Job Summary

The post holder will work in support of registered staff, delivering high standards of care within the Surgical Ward, to ensure the needs of patients are met whilst maintaining privacy and dignity.

To assist the surgical team in the care of patients and their families to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.

Responsibilities

Enable and assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance.
Enable and assist patients to eat and drink.
Enable and assist patients to access and use toilet facilities, participating in individual continence promotion programmes.
Enable and assist patients to maintain and improve their mobility.
Contribute to the movement and treatment of patients to maximise their physical comfort.
Enable and assist patients to achieve physical comfort.
Promote mobility of patients, supervising and assisting as necessary to ensure patient retains optimum mobility.
Maintain high level of communication with Nursing staff and relatives.
Assist in the maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness within the Unit.
Awareness of the following is essential:
- COSHH Regulation (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
- RIDDOR Regulation (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (NI) 1986)
- Risk Assessment
- Unit Policies
- Health and Safety legislation
- Moving and Handling (to include yearly update)
- Fire Lectures (to include yearly update)
- Fire Drills (bi-annually)
To participate in mandatory training as required.
Participate in annual performance reviews and development planning.
